Bulbula [9-yrs]
Bulbola, once living in severe poverty with a mentally ill father in a remote Nuristan village, now thrives in a Kabul safehouse, attending school and enjoying new opportunities beyond her previously constrained life.
Shokofa is currently supporting over 50 Afghan refugee girls who have fled the Taliban’s oppressive regime in pursuit of education, freedom, and the hope of a brighter future. These girls reside in safe and nurturing homes overseen by Shokofa’s dedicated staff. To ensure they receive a high-quality education, they are enrolled in private international schools, preparing them for higher education opportunities at other countries. Alongside their formal education, these young women participate in specialized online English classes taught by professional American volunteers. Additionally, they engage in enriching extracurricular activities such as music, painting, technology, as well as traditional arts like embroidery, crochet, and tailoring. For those who are academically gifted, Shokofa provides scholarship opportunities, enabling them to study at schools and universities in the U.S. and Europe.
In addition to its ongoing efforts, Shokofa has recently expanded its support to Afghan refugees stranded in countries like Pakistan, where many families are awaiting processing of their U.S. refugee cases. Due to the suspension of refugee programs during the Trump administration, these families remain in limbo. Shokofa steps in to help their children attend school, offering them stability and hope during this period of uncertainty.
