About the Child
Maryam now lives in one of Shokofa’s caring homes in Islamabad, Pakistan, alongside 20 other girls. Her life took a dramatic turn in 2023 when she was welcomed into a Shokofa safehouse in Kabul. For the first time, she could focus on learning rather than mere survival. After a year in Kabul, she was relocated to Islamabad, where she now attends a private school. Surrounded by safety, friendship, and the guidance of caring adults, Maryam is flourishing—something she could only dream of in her earlier years.
Family Situation
Maryam’s father abandoned the family years ago, disappearing to Pakistan and never returning or contacting them. Left to raise seven children alone, her mother struggled to provide even the basics. Tragedy struck when one of Maryam’s brothers drowned while crossing a river to collect firewood, deepening the family’s grief and worsening her mother’s severe depression.
You have the opportunity to sponsor one or multiple Afghan girls from our orphanages. Your sponsorship provides vital financial support for their education, including tuition fees, and essential living expenses such as rent, food, healthcare, clothing, utilities, and more. To ensure continuous education and care, we kindly encourage sponsors to consider annual contributions.
As a sponsor, you can build a meaningful connection with your sponsored child through letters and video calls. You also have the option to visit the orphanage and meet her in person. We will keep you updated on her progress, education, daily life, and activities, ensuring you play an ongoing role in her journey toward a brighter and successful future.
