About the Child:
Khalida is one of the youngest and brightest stars at Weia Home, one of Shokofa’s loving care homes in Islamabad. Known as the home’s little comedian, she has a wonderful sense of humor that keeps everyone smiling. Since arriving in 2024, Khalida has discovered new passions—she quickly learned to ride a bicycle and now zips around on roller skates, which she absolutely loves.
She sings in the children’s choir on weekends, enjoys styling her friends’ hair, and never misses a chance to dance at parties. Khalida’s energy and creativity make her a joy to be around.
Family Situation:
Khalida grew up in one of the most remote valleys of Nuristan, where life is defined by isolation and hardship. All of her siblings suffer from a condition—likely caused by a genetic disorder or severe calcium deficiency—that makes it difficult for them to walk. The nearest clinic is several days’ journey on foot, far beyond what her family could manage.
Her father is unemployed and occasionally finds a job at a small shop in the village, barely enough to feed his eight children. The family lives in deep poverty, in a cramped servant’s quarter provided by the shop owner, tucked away in his backyard.
Everything changed when Khalida was welcomed into Shokofa’s safehouse in Kabul. For the first time, she received proper medical attention, and her mobility improved so much that she now walks to school every day.
