JARIA

About the Child

Jaria’s journey with Shokofa began in 2023, when she came from her village in Nuristan to a caring safehouse in Kabul. Hidden from the Taliban’s reach, this home provided a rare sanctuary where girls could attend school and take online classes without fear.

After a year in Kabul, she was relocated to Islamabad, Pakistan, where she now lives with 20 other girls in another Shokofa home. She attends a private school, takes music lessons, and has discovered a new passion—roller skating—which she learned during Shokofa’s 2025 summer program and now enjoys as her favorite hobby. Surrounded by friends and the guidance of caring mentors, Jaria is thriving in ways she once thought impossible.

Family Situation

Jaria comes from a poor family in Nuristan. Her father, once a miner in the rugged Hindu Kush Mountains, lost his fingers in an accident and could no longer work in the mines. He now spends long days as a shepherd, leading goats to distant pastures. Her mother, in poor health, remains at home caring for four children.

The family has no house of their own, living instead in a small dwelling next to her grandfather’s stable. Her father’s severe mental health struggles have led to isolation from their community, deepening the family’s hardship.

You have the opportunity to sponsor one or multiple Afghan girls from our orphanages. Your sponsorship provides vital financial support for their education, including tuition fees, and essential living expenses such as rent, food, healthcare, clothing, utilities, and more. To ensure continuous education and care, we kindly encourage sponsors to consider annual contributions.

As a sponsor, you can build a meaningful connection with your sponsored child through letters and video calls. You also have the option to visit the orphanage and meet her in person. We will keep you updated on her progress, education, daily life, and activities, ensuring you play an ongoing role in her journey toward a brighter and successful future.
