AYESHA

About the Child:

Ayesha arrived at one of Shokofa’s caring homes in Islamabad in April 2025 and she began attending school for the first time in August 2025, beginning 1st grade. Her sister, Bushra—four years older—had already been living in another Shokofa home for several years.

hough she came from a remote village in Nuristan and a life marked by hardship and miseries, Ayesha adapted to her new surroundings with remarkable ease. That first summer, she eagerly joined every program, sang with joy in the Weia Choir, and learned to roller skate with the determination of someone discovering the simple thrill of childhood for the very first time.

Family Situation:

April 2025 was more than just a new beginning for Ayesha—it was a long-awaited reunion. After years of separation, she was finally able to wrap her arms around Bushra again. Two sisters, torn apart by unimaginable circumstances, finally stood side by side, no longer just longing for each other’s presence but living it.

Their early years were a story of loss and instability. After their parents’ divorce, their mother abandoned them to begin a new life with another man, leaving the girls in the care of a father who was homeless and struggling with severe mental illness. With no safe place to call home, Ayesha and Bushra were separated and passed from one relative to another, never knowing where they would sleep or when they would see each other again.

Now, in the safety of Shokofa’s home, Ayesha is not only learning and growing—she is rediscovering what it means to belong, to be loved, and to dream.
