Melanie Nelson brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for empowering girls to the Shokofa board. Her diverse background spans education, culinary arts, and entrepreneurship, having successfully founded and grown three distinct businesses. A graduate of the prestigious Harvard Business School, Melanie’s commitment to lifelong learning is evident in her continuous pursuit of knowledge and new experiences.

Coming from humble beginnings, Melanie has embraced opportunities with a characteristic “yes” attitude. Over a 21-year career, she built a thriving mail-order business, supported by a dedicated team and invaluable mentors. Under her leadership, the company developed and distributed 2,400 nutrition graphics products to schools across the United States, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to impact students today.

Based in Portland, Oregon with her family, Melanie’s commitment to global understanding takes her around the world. She is a passionate advocate for girls’ and women’s education and healthcare, actively supporting international charities that align with these values. Melanie is proud to serve as a Shokofa board member, dedicating her time and expertise to empowering smart, capable, and competent girls to reach their full potential.
